The Big Jack East Project is in northeastern Placer County, east of Highway 89 South, west of Martis Valley, and south of the Town of Truckee. The adjacent neighborhoods of Sierra Meadows, Ponderosa Palisades, Martiswoods Estates, Ponderosa Ranchos and others, plus a major utility corridor elevated the priority for forest management. The project reduced fuel loading to create conditions to improve forest resiliency to fire, insects, disease, drought and climate change. The project protects sensitive resources, provides access for fire suppression in the event of a wildfire, creates access for utility site management, and improves recreation opportunities.

Significant work was completed in 2020 and 2021. Prescribed burning remains to be completed.
